So for Anime Mid-Atlantic, the Dark Geek Lord and I, Crystal Fantasy, decided to compete in the Hall Cosplay contest in our Vincent Valentine (Final Fantasy VII) and Lightning 
(Final Fantasy: Lightning Returns) cosplays! On my side of the experience, I have competed in cosplay costume contests only 3 times before this. However, this 4th time was by FAR the best experience of getting judged I have ever had. The judges were so uplifting and encouraging compared to my previous experiences which just felt unwelcome and uncomfortable. They smiled the whole time and actually had full interest in what each cosplayer had to say about their own costume. Just having that change in atmosphere of the judges being so welcoming encouraged me even more to talk about the great parts of my cosplay that I was proud of. I was able to talk about each and every single part of my cosplay comfortably and feel proud of it while I was speaking too! All because the judges expressed complete interest with smiles on their faces.
And it made ALL the difference to me, because the Dark Geek Lord and I ended up BOTH getting big awards on our cosplays! At the Masquerade they first called me up for winning Best Novice Saturday award with the Lightning cosplay. The judges make sure to make everyone feel so amazing.. they had said that specific category had so many amazing entries! So to win that award made me feel incredible just because they said that little thing! Also, right after I got off the stage after being handed my award, the Dark Geek Lord was called up to get his award for Best Journeyman Saturday!
