Super Art Fight: Katsucon

One of the events went to at Katsucon was the Super Art Fight on Saturday.  When I seen it on the Katsucon page of events, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I imagine a huge fight with paint or something.  I was way off.  On the stage was a huge canvass of paper, four large sheets.  There were two teams for each round (I stayed for two rounds).  Both teams got a starting topic like Under the Sea and Up In Ze Air.  They are out drawing things that go with their topic and the pictures can attack each other.  Such as Under the sea the artist drew Ariel from Little Mermaid, the artist for up in the air drew a flying unicorn, the unicorn was going to stab Ariel and she used the trident against the unicorn.

To make things harder, every 5 minutes a new topic was thrown in with the Wheeel of Death.  The wheel would turn and everyone would chant “wheel of death, wheel of death” until it stopped on a new topic like Monsters in Uggs or Grumpy Cat.  There was just a whole mess of randomness thrown into this event.  The announcers made it even more fun with their commentary about everything being drawn and making fun little side comments about each other and the artists.  One of the nice things was they donated the finished art into the charity auction so people could actually bid on it and have a piece of the art fight in their own home, or give it a friend.

The audience got the chance to pick the winners of the art fight.  I would love to be able to see this again at another convention.  I am going to keep my eye out for it with any of the conventions that we are looking at attending.  Even the sound tech crew got into the humor of the Art fight by showing little snippets of a random baby cartoon seal doing different things like blinking and running.  It really was a whole bunch of randomness that made the art fight a lot of fun to attend.  I wonder if there is a way the audience could be one of the ones drawing, might have to look into it.
