Tekkoshodown

Tekko 2012 premiered a game called Tekkoshodown.  It  is a real life role playing game created by Brian Hagan.  Last year it was a smash hit, a multitude of people at the convention played the game and raved about how much fun it was, so much so that this year I decided to check it out.  The idea is simple really, you can either be a hero or a monster and you battle each other to earn gear or experience.  The monsters earn the gear, the heroes earn the experience.

I was one the heroes.  Once  you sign up you pick a character name (I was Capt. Floppydong) and a guild (I was in the Minty Badger).  You get a set of rules, gear and off you go.  Throughout the convention as you see someone with an extension to their badges that say monster or hero tells you who to fight.  Flip a coin and battle.  Simple right??  Yep.  It was a lot of fun.  I got meet a lot of new and great people through this game, it is a great tool for networking through the convention.  As someone asked to battle with me I talked to them and helped new players learn the game.  Brian Hagan did an excellent game coming up with this idea.

It added a new dimension to gaming.  The simplicty of the game added to the enjoyment of it.  The use of guilds this year allowed players to have someone to rely on when they needed something such as help in battling a monster/hero, as well as gear to level up.  The only downfall to that was you didn’t really know who else was in your guild unless you already knew them.  I talked to monsters more than heroes because that is who I battled.  There isn’t much that I could think of that would make this game better.  I enjoyed playing sure I wasn’t number 1 or even top 10 (though it would have been funny to hear Capt. Floppydong announced as leader), I enjoyed every minute of playing this game whether it was with my friends or someone I have never met before.

Brian Hagan did a great job creating this game and I can see it going farther in the future.  Look for my interview with Mr. Hagan as well as the winner for 2012 Tekkoshodown in the next couple of days.
